Bellfoundry Grassmayr

Since 1599 The GRASSMAYR bell foundry has been casting bells. For over 400 years, the mysterious effect of the sound of bells has shaped Austria's oldest family business. The secret of their bell calculations is carefully guarded, continually expanded through research, and passed on to the next generation. For Grassmayr, tradition means passing on of the "fire" - the deep desire to combine tradition with new technology and thus ensure the continued existence of this special artscraft.

CREDAMUS for MAGDEBURG CATHEDRAL

Nominal pitch (striking tone) of the bell: D0 +6/16 with recessed prime D/0 +/0, 293.2 cm Ø, weight approx. 14,100 kg. The CREDAMUS bell for Magdeburg Cathedral (Germany) was cast at the Innsbruck bell foundry. The photographs document the production of the molded parts “core,” “false bell,” and “mantle” up to the casting of the bell.

Art Project 2025 – “Gils Bells”

In 2025, the GRASSMAYR Bell Foundry had the pleasure of realizing a special art project in collaboration with Viennese architects and artist Christoph Meier: a sound installation composed of bells, plates, and bowls for an agricultural school in Luxembourg. We sincerely thank everyone involved for the inspiring and successful collaboration, especially: Christoph Meier, Vienna (Gils Bells, 2025); Lycée Technique Agricole Gilsdorf, Luxembourg; Photos: Ruben Mahler

Memories ring out into eternity.

This very special memorial bell is part of a carillon and commemorates the tragic accident in which three young people lost their lives far too early.
