Tragic accident on January 15, 1979 - Avalanche in the mountains, north of Innsbruck, on the Seegrube at 1,900 meters.
On January 15, a large avalanche broke loose east of the Frau Hitt lift at around 11:45 a.m. and thundered into a skiing area that is particularly popular with beginners. While numerous skiers were able to free themselves, eight skiers were buried several meters deep under the masses of snow. In the immediatly following large-scale operation involving over 120 helpers from mountain rescue, air rescue, ski instructors and private individuals, all help came too late for three people.
